Van Halteren Technologies (vanhalteren.com) and Naval Group have signed a contract during NEDS, the largest defence industry event in the Netherlands, for the delivery of essential systems for the Royal Netherlands Navy’s new Orka-class submarines. With this contract, the family-owned company makes an important contribution to the RNSC.
Van Halteren Technologies will supply the central hydraulic power units (HPUs), the refrigeration and freezing systems for provisions, as well as anchor winches and capstans. The company not only designs these systems but also manufactures them in-house.
The use of these systems on board submarines requires designs in which weight, compactness, shock resistance and reliability are central. Because space inside a submarine is extremely restricted, all components must fit to the centimetre and be able to withstand the most demanding conditions.
Van Halteren has a long track record in Dutch naval shipbuilding, both for surface vessels and submarines. The company previously contributed to the hydraulic systems for the Walrus class and is now once again playing a role in the construction of the new generation of submarines.
Team Orka : A long-term and sustainable collaboration between Naval Group and the Dutch industry
Van Halteren is one of the partners within Team Orka, the growing network of Dutch companies that, under the leadership of Naval Group, are contributing to the construction of the Orka class. This collaboration supports the Industrial Cooperation Agreement (ICA) signed by Naval Group with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and contributes to strengthening Dutch maritime knowledge and industry in a sustainable way.
“The Royal Netherlands Navy is an important customer for us, and we are proud that, in cooperation with Naval Group, we can contribute to this new class of Dutch submarines,” says Izaak Veerman, CEO of Van Halteren Technologies. “This enables us not only to preserve our many years of expertise in high-end technology but also to continue developing it.”
"The specialised knowledge and advanced technology of Van Halteren are of great value to the Orka programme. Their ability to design and manufacture critical systems in-house makes them an important partner within Team Orka,” says Mark Donderwinkel, Country Director Netherlandsat Naval Group. “We look forward to working together with the company on the new generation of submarines for the Royal Netherlands Navy.”
