• Alstom has signed a contract with construction company PORR (porr-group.com) for the implementation of signalling systems as part of the expansion of line 354 in Oborniki Wielkopolskie;
• The investment will include construction of a new track and a second bridge crossing over the Warta River;
• The signalling works will be carried out within an exceptionally short timeframe, in line with the National Recovery Plan schedule.
The project, aimed at eliminating capacity bottleneck in Oborniki Wielkopolskie, will significantly improve train traffic management and enhance safety. It will also result in better regional connectivity, greater accessibility to rail transport for residents, and improved travel comfort both for regional and long-distance services.
Alstom will design and install the railway traffic control systems, which are a key part of the new track and the second bridge over the Warta River. The works cover the section of railway line 354 from the Oborniki Wielkopolskie Most junction to the Oborniki Wielkopolskie station. The project includes the installation of signalling equipment for the new passing loop in Parkowo and updates to the Local Control Centre (LCS) Poznań Piła. Completion of the contract is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026, in line with the timeline set by National Recovery Plan, which aims to boost rail capacity, safety, and sustainability.
“The expansion of railway line 354 reflects both the technical ambition of the project and the outstanding ability of the Alstom team to meet challenges with efficiency and agility. Thanks to our experience and proven technological solutions, we can support the development of railway infrastructure in a region that is strategically important for both passenger connections and freight transport.” said Adam Juretko, Head of the Katowice Branch at Alstom Polska.
The construction of an additional track in Oborniki Wielkopolskie and a second bridge crossing over the Warta River will complement the extensive modernisation of the Poznań Piła railway line, completed in 2019. An important addition to this investment, aimed at improving standards and increasing the frequency of passenger services, will be the creation of a new passing loop in Parkowo. The project also includes the construction of a new platform at the Oborniki Wielkopolskie Miasto stop, featuring improved passenger amenities with new weather-protected waiting area, an underpass with elevators, lighting, information boards, as well as amenities for passengers with limited mobility.
Alstom’s experience in the Polish market includes, among others, the first implementation of the ERTMS Level 2 system and its rollout across ten PKP PLK railway lines, the implementation of a control centre for the Warsaw Metro, the installation of more than 30 centralised traffic control (CTC) systems, equipping over 220 stations with computer-based interlocking systems, and the modernisation of more than 1,700 level crossing signalling systems.
