With a carbon footprint that is 75 percent lower than conventional zinc, the partnership is making electrical infrastructure more sustainable.
Low-Carbon Zinc is crucial for a fossil-free society and a circular economy. Used to galavanize steel structures, zinc protects against corrosion for up to 100 years, maximizing their operating life. Partnering with ABB to electrify and optimize its value chain, Boliden (boliden.com) uses renewable energy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to just 1.0kg per kilo of metal produced around 75 percent lower than the industry average of 3.6kg.
ABB power distribution solutions, galvanized with Boliden’s Low-Carbon Zinc, can now be found in the Boliden mines where zinc ore is extracted.
