The new boiler line from ANDRITZ will have the capacity to treat 70,000 tons of high calorific waste per year. It will convert solid recovered fuel from household waste into energy, thus supporting the island's efforts to end landfilling and increase energy autonomy.
Pascal Langeron, Director of Albioma Indian Ocean, said: “Our new line will enable us to use solid recovered fuel from a nearby waste sorting facility to generate electricity. This will divert waste from landfills and conserve fossil fuels, contributing to decarbonization and a more circular economy. It also makes the region more energy self-sufficient. We look forward to working with the highly experienced ANDRITZ team to implement this strategic project.”
ANDRITZ’s scope of supply includes the engineering and manufacture of a boiler with a thermal fuel input of 41.67 MW based on its FlexSol grate combustion system. ANDRITZ will also be responsible for the commissioning. The new line is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026. It will replace some of the imported fuel used for power generation at the Bois-Rouge plant.
