The task force, inaugurated on February 29, 2024, at the Hong Kong Palace Museum, marks the significant collaboration between prominent cybersecurity companies, public service providers, and law enforcement agencies to strengthen the exchange of critical cyber threat intelligence, to prevent attacks in the early stages, and to facilitate the investigations of digital crimes.
The launching ceremony, inaugurated by the Commissioner of Police Raymond Siu and witnessed by Group-IB CEO Dmitry Volkov, underscores the significant commitment to nurturing a strong public-private sector partnership in Hong Kong. CSATF brings together leading industry experts and law enforcement agencies who will collectively combat the evolving cyber threat landscape.
This collaborative effort aims to enhance the defense capacity of local organizations against cyber threats, emphasizing the need for a Hong Kong-based intelligence feed tailored to the specificities of the region. Group-IB, an active partner in global investigations led by INTERPOL Europol, and AFRIPOL has been actively engaged in providing assistance with cyber investigations and sharing crucial threat intelligence with the Hong Kong Police Force. Earlier in 2024, Group-IB had the honor of being invited to participate in the annual Cyber Command Course organized by the Cyber Security & Technology Bureau (CSTCB) of the Hong Kong Police Force. Through real-world examples of scam calls and phishing, Group-IB experts showcased strategies and solutions to combat these growing threats facing the region.
As a member of CSATF, Group-IB will actively provide cyber intelligence on threat actors and their attacks tracked by its Threat Intelligence Platform. Group-IB will also contribute intelligence on the current threat landscape in the Asia-Pacific region, with a specific focus on critical infrastructure in Hong Kong. The company’s experts will share best practices and tools from its Incident Response and High-Tech Crime Investigation units to effectively collect evidence during cyber attacks including but not limited to ransomware incidents.
CSTCB will consolidate intelligence reports from various members, integrate them with its observations on police reports and cybersecurity incidents, and subsequently share this comprehensive information promptly with local critical infrastructure organizations.
“The Cyber Security Action Task Force (CSATF) brings together the collective expertise and diversified intelligence of both public and private institutions. Led by the Hong Kong Police Force, it gathers nine leading cyber security firms worldwide. Through rapid exchange of cyber intelligence and sharing of professional knowledge, the Task Force aims to enhance the ability to cope with cyber threats in the future.”
