• The entire line will serve over 104,000 passengers daily;
• Alstom’s second signalling system in the Klang Valley after Kajang Line.

Alstom, global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has successfully delivered the complete signalling system for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Putrajaya Line (mymrt.com.my), the second line of the Klang Valley MRT project in Malaysia’s Greater Kuala Lumpur region. The second phase of the line covering 24 stations between Kentonmen and Putrajaya Sentral officially opened to the public yesterday. The first phase operations comprising 12 stations from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu were already delivered for passenger service in June 2022.

Under the scope of its contract for this 57.7-kilometre Putrajaya Line, Alstom was responsible for the design, installation, testing and commissioning of a communications-based train control (CBTC) system using its advanced Cityflo™ 650 solution, as well as on-board signalling equipment for the fleet of 49 trains and two maintenance vehicles. Alstom also provided the signalling facilities for a new depot and a back-up control centre located at Serdang, as part of the line’s phase two opening. Alstom installed its second signalling system in the Klang Valley, while maintaining current operations of the Kajang Line (with two stations[1] migrated to the Putrajaya Line) throughout construction and testing, with no impact to availability or reliability of the system.

“Our partnership with key local stakeholders is grounded in a shared vision for seamless connectivity within the Greater Kuala Lumpur region. From the Kajang Line to the Putrajaya Line, what we have achieved today demonstrates the power of a great collaboration and the deep expertise in bringing about a smarter and greener Klang Valley MRT network and beyond for the years to come,” said Jayaram Naidu, Managing Director of Singapore and Malaysia, and Services Vice President of Asia Pacific at Alstom.

With 10 interchange stations and connecting stations, the fully operational Putrajaya Line provides not only increased capacity, but also more seamless and accessible connections between northwest Kuala Lumpur, its southern suburbs, and Putrajaya, Malaysia’s federal administrative centre. The line is expected to serve over 104,000 passengers daily, further alleviating the traffic congestion while favourably making public transport a choice mode within Greater Kuala Lumpur region.

With a presence of over 20 years in Malaysia, Alstom has successfully participated in some of the most iconic mobility projects in the country, including the Kuala Lumpur Sri Petaling and Ampang Lines, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kelana Jaya LRT Line. In 2022, Alstom also signed the upgrading contract for the KLIA Aerotrain.

Alstom™ and Cityflo™ are protected trademarks of the Alstom Group.
