The Robotics Division of Yaskawa Europe GmbH, one of the world's leading suppliers of robot technology, is looking to expand its business in Eastern Europe and has signed a contract with Normandia. Normandia (normandia.ro) was founded in Brasov, Romania in 1992 and is a specialist in industrial automation and in the installation and servicing of equipment and robots.
With a new sales and service partner in Europe, Yaskawa underlines its ambitions to show more presence in Europe and to operate closer to the customer. On February 3, 2020 the management of Normandia and representatives of Yaskawa Europe GmbH signed the contract.
"Normandia has 27 years of experience in the automation industry and is therefore an ideal partner for us", says Armin Schlenk, Marketing Director of Yaskawa. "Many of our customers are already active in Romania and have production facilities there. With this partnership, we want to offer them even better on-site service", says Otwin Kleinschmidt, Division Manager Robotics Germany.
“The domestic market offers great potential for automation using robots. We are delighted that Yaskawa, a globally renowned and successful manufacturer, has chosen us”, says Nicolas Plesea, Chief Executive Officer of Normandia.
According to figures from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), the robotics market has grown by an average of 26% over the last seven years, compared to an average of only 7% across Europe. With a robot density of between 20 and 50 per 10,000 employees, Romania is still in the lower range and therefore still has a lot of potential. The global average was 99 robots per 10,000 employees as of late.
Commitment to Europe as a business location
With more than 430,000 units installed, Yaskawa is one of the world’s leading manufacturers in the fields of industrial robotics and drive, automation and control technology as well as components for generating alternative energy and is pursuing an ambitious expansion strategy in Europe: "Just like our investments in Slovenia, Germany, France and Sweden, this contract is a strategic component of the Yaskawa Group's European initiative, as anchored in our global corporate goals 'Vision 2025'," says Manfred Stern, Regional Head Yaskawa Europe. The company, which was founded in 1915, is thus deliberately bucking the international trend of shifting technological know-how and production expertise from Europe to Asia.
Yaskawa Europe GmbH (yaskawa.eu.com), headquartered in Eschborn, Germany, recently generated annual sales of over 600 million euros with more than 1,900 employees throughout Europe. The European Robotics Division of Yaskawa, headquartered in Allershausen near Munich, currently employs approximately 300 people. Yaskawa has been active in Slovenia with its own branch office since 1990.
