Zipcar, the world’s leading car-sharing network, today announced a new partnership with the Sonoma County Transportation Authority (SCTA) and the City of Santa Rosa to bring its “wheels when you want them” membership service to Santa Rosa residents, visitors and transit riders. Through the partnership, two Zipcars are now available for reservation in City-owned parking spots at the Downtown Santa Rosa Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) Station and in a surface lot downtown.
The two Zipcars a Honda Civic named “Alfred” and a Ford Escape named “Sparky” are available for reservation by the hour or by the day with gas, insurance, maintenance and 180 miles of driving included. One vehicle is parked in the Railroad Square Depot lot at the Downtown Santa Rosa SMART Station and the other is parked in Lot 10 at 730 5th Street for convenient pick-up and drop-off.
Santa Rosa residents and employees can take advantage of complimentary annual Zipcar memberships thanks to subsidies provided by a grant through the SCTA. To receive a discounted membership, visit Zipcar.com/SantaRosa.
“We’re excited to add car sharing alongside the new SMART service, giving Santa Rosa residents and commuters more options than ever before,” said Santa Rosa Mayor, and SCTA Director, Chris Coursey.
The new Zipcars help with mid-day trips for workers who ride the SMART train and choose to leave their car at home and they provide residents and visitors with an alternative to relying on personal vehicles.
“Rolling our service into Santa Rosa provides residents and visitors with an easy, cost-effective way to get where they need to go without owning a car,” said Franco Arieta, Zipcar regional general manager. “The new Zipcars along with the new SMART rail service and other transportation options available locally help free up traffic and congestion and reduce carbon emissions, making Santa Rosa a better place to live.”
The launch in Santa Rosa builds on Zipcar’s success at several other locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including at the San Rafael SMART station, where the service launched in June 2017. With a number of area members already using Zipcar, the company was eager to expand its presence, providing even more residents and visitors with convenient access to wheels where they live, work and play. Zipcar members can reserve and drive the company’s new vehicles in Santa Rosa as well as more than 12,000 vehicles in the company’s global fleet.
