PCL Construction is pleased to announce a strong showing at the 2016 Alberta Construction Magazine Top Projects Awards. PCL Edmonton and PCL Calgary were each honored with two awards, while PCL Energy was a winner as well.
Rogers Place was crowned Project of the Year and also won for top Commercial Design. Construction of the 1.1-million-square-foot facility began in March 2014 and was completed in September 2016. The project scope also included construction of Ford Hall, The Downtown Community Arena, LRT connection and pedestrian pedway.
The Banff Gondola Upper Terminal Renovations won in the Commercial under $50 million category and also was chosen as the “People’s Choice” award. The project scope included the renovation of a four-storey building, including the envelope, interior fitout and additional structure. The project was located on Sulphur Mountain which was only accessible by gondola car, helicopter, or 2.8 km hike.
In the Industrial Under $50 million category it was the Suncor Pad 117 Field Facilities Construction that won top honors. The project consisted of a greenfield SAGD well pad comprising of 14 well pairs. PCL Energy managed the construction of Pad 117, including receiving, unloading and installing 51 modules, two motor control centres, and nine pieces of process equipment.
Three other PCL projects received honourable mention: Edmonton Tower, Varscona Theatre, and Stollery Children’s Hospital Pediatric Surgical Suite Expansion and Renovation.
