The new tooling will be used to service aircraft in the military and civilian markets. Complete with a high resolution 7 inch Android tablet display, the multipliers will increase accuracy and control during all operations.
The series has been launched in 1,000 and 5,000 ft-lb models, with a third 2,200 ft-lb model also in development. Sweeney, a Hydratight brand, is exhibiting at this week’s AAAA Luther G Jones Army Aviation Sustainment Forum in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Chris Corcoran, aero and industrial product manager, Hydratight, said: “We’re delighted to make our digital torque multiplier series available to both military and commercial markets. We have been supplying torque multipliers to our customers since the 1950s but have developed the range to ensure we set the standard for this type of tooling.
“Our range is wide, with digital and non-digital options, and torque outputs from 1,000 ft-lb to 83,000 ft-lb.” The equipment is used on many aircraft turbine types in combination with accessories including anchors and sockets, work handles, slings and pneumatic and mechanical tools, all to Hydratight or original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications.
Mr Corcoran added: “We’re proud to provide aircraft ground support equipment to all branches of the military. The AAAA forums are ideal to re-establish relationships and gauge the up-to-date needs of our customers. The helicopter engine maintenance tools and propeller handling tools we produce for military are the highest quality, but we must always look for improvements and take on board customer feedback.” Hydratight also offers Sweeney anchor plates, socket extensions, work stands and maintenance hoists for multiple helicopter airframe and engine OEMs. Specialist technicians use the prop tools to apply torque to propeller shaft retaining nuts and engine thrust bearing nuts during assembly and disassembly. The company works closely with military base and branch management to determine which type of products would make their processes safer, more efficient and result in cost savings.
