The Washington Post awarded Mary’s Center the 2016 Top Workplaces honor last night. In its third year, The Washington Post’s Top Workplace list spotlights private, public, nonprofit and government agencies with the highest ratings from their employees in a survey conducted by Workplace Dynamics.
“Our staff is our most precious asset; their profound commitment to our mission and the quality of services has made us an impactful institution that provides care with a heart,” said Nina Albert, Chair of the Board of Directors. “I am very proud to see the Washington Post recognize their efforts.”
What started as a small clinic in a basement 28 years ago, with 10 employees serving 200 Latino women fleeing war and poverty, has become a multisite and multicultural organization. Nearly 500 employees work at the Center’s seven locations throughout DC and Maryland, dedicated to promoting wellness and supporting 36,000 participants to move up the economic ladder.
“One of my first projects when I joined Mary’s Center was to measure the engagement of our workforce,” said Carlos Marroquín, Director of Human Resources. “Knowing the turmoil that rapid growth causes in the workplace, I prepared myself for a lot of action items to emerge from the survey; what I got instead was something I have never seen before: a truly engaged and satisfied group of people, driven by their passion to serve their community and with an overwhelming desire to support one another.”
This honor was bestowed on a total of 150 companies at a celebration on Thursday, June 16 at the new offices of The Washington Post. In addition, Mary’s Center will be featured in a special section of The Washington Post on Sunday, June 19.
