Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, has collaborated with YBP Library Services to enhance Sierra acquisitions with an integration between Innovative’s RESTful API and YBP’s acquisition and collection development interface GOBI (Global Online Bibliographic Information).
Part of a long-standing, strategic partnership between Innovative and YBP Library Services, a division of EBSCO Information Services, this integration will dramatically improve library operations and efficiencies, and ensure staff are equipped to leverage the newest technologies to easily manage acquisitions workflows. GOBI orders are reflected in Sierra in real time, without requiring traditional FTP or EDI ordering. By reducing the number of steps and manual input required to complete a purchase, libraries will experience significant savings in time and resources.
Four notable libraries have participated in beta testing the integration, including Michigan State University, Santa Clara University in California, Union College in New York, and Wright State University in Ohio.
“Innovative's new API integration with GOBI is extremely helpful in minimizing the number of steps necessary to order materials, as well as greatly reducing the number of duplicate orders with the help of alerts!” said Shara Scardina, Collections Specialist at Santa Clara University Library. “Unlike exporting orders through EDI, the API will alert you whenever you order something that your institution has already purchased through YBP, regardless of edition.”
“The API integration between GOBI and Sierra continues YBP’s long-term strategic initiative to provide our customers with comprehensive GOBI workflow support," said Mark Kendall, Senior Vice President and General Manager at YBP. "EBSCO as a whole has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with Innovative Interfaces, and this latest collaboration with YBP offers our mutual customers the ease of acquisitions, through technology, coupled with time and resource savings.”
As the first vendor to provide an interface for leveraging MARC record data to initiate acquisitions activities, Innovative has evolved to offer API access to rich acquisitions data in real time more than double the data elements than other ILS vendors in the industry. This integration will enable library staff to track material usage and value better when ordering content through YBP.
“Innovative aims to improve staff efficiencies with every new solution we develop, and this integration using our acquisitions API demonstrates that goal,” said Leif E. Pedersen, Executive Vice President, Product at Innovative. “The Innovative RESTful APIs bring value to library staff workflows and present new opportunities for integration with third party vendors like YBP Library Services. As we continue to align Innovative product development with library needs, our library partners can expect this level of successful vendor integration to expand in the future.”
This functionality will be in general availability with Sierra Release 2.3, scheduled in Q2 2016.
