This is the second MET safety listing that DEKRA has completed for SBD.
DEKRA and SBD have more than a decade of cooperation in China; MET certification is the latest move towards expansion of bilateral ties, by covering the important market segmentation of North America for SBD global products.
With more than a century’s legacy, SBD is the world’s largest and leading power tool brand. SBD has been partnering with DEKRA globally in product quality and safety assurance to ensure their products meet and exceed industrial standards in Europe, Asia and other emerging markets. Built on the decade’s technical confidence, the SBD team decided to start its first Steam Mop project for MET listing right after DEKRA launched this service in mid-May 2015. Testing was carried out in DEKRA Shanghai Lab while certification was completed in 2 working days by MET US certification center. The twice per year annual NRTL factory audit will also be followed up by DEKRA team in China.
The second MET project was completed with much shorter turnaround time as rechargeable electric power tool safety standard in North America is harmonized with IEC/EN standard. Based on previous IEC/EN report issued by DEKRA, SBD easily obtained a conversion of a report according to the latest North America safety standard. In the past, SBD would have had to re-certify the product.
By bringing North America market access through MET Labs, in addition to its existing service portfolio, DEKRA as of today can provide extensive ESS (Export Support Service) solutions to clients in over 200 regions and countries spanning across North America, Europe, Asia, South America, Oceania etc.

MET Announcement Regarding UL 1995 Certifications - Monday, November 23, 2015
Technology continues to evolve and so do the product safety standards. UL 1995 is currently in its fifth edition; however, many of MET’s certification clients have maintained certifications to earlier editions. Further, some clients have been certified under a scheme whereby they may build a very large variety of products based on a very limited sample assessment by the certification body. This type of certification is often referred to as a category listing*.
Clients with certification earlier than the fourth edition and for clients that have a category listing, it has become necessary for MET to take specific actions that will affect the continued certification of your products.
MET has established the following schedule depending on the unique circumstances of each UL 1995 certification:
1. Any client with a certification to an edition of UL 1995 earlier than the fourth edition will no longer be permitted to make technical amendments to their file effective immediately.
2. Any client with a category listing regardless of the edition used must convert to product specific certification to the most current standard by February 29, 2016.
3. Any client with a product specific certification to an edition of UL 1995 earlier than the fourth edition shall have their file updated by April 30, 2016.
MET will contact affected clients directly over the next several weeks; however, we urge you to make your own determination of the impact these directives may have on your covered products. Please contact your account manager to discuss your options or intentions as soon as possible.
*Category listing - Most certifications that were performed under this program are identified as such in the individual reports. There may be some reports, however, that do not have the identification of a category listing stated within that may still be a category listing. We will identify these to you when we reach out to individual applicants.
