Mimecast, the email security, continuity and archiving cloud service provider, confirmed today it is in the final stages of preparing local data centers in Australia. The data centers will support Mimecast's continued growth experienced since opening in Melbourne in July 2013. Mimecast expects the new data centers to go live within the next few months.
Mimecast is establishing its services in two identical data centers in separate locations in New South Wales. Mimecast is investing in Australia to help local companies deal with the emerging threat landscape surrounding email which has become a primary target for attack.
“This investment will allow Australian companies to archive their growing volumes of email while maintaining local data residency and provide powerful search tools that allow users to easily access this information,” said Nicholas Lennon, country manager for Mimecast Australia.
“We believe a very high concentration of Australian businesses most valuable corporate data is held within email. Data loss, leakage or security breaches from email have been shown to have devastating effects.”
Establishing these services in two geographically distinct data centers allows Mimecast to meet continuity of service commitments. In the event of issues or maintenance at one of its data centers it is able to switch operations to the second to maintain customer email and data services. Mimecast services and data are hosted on its own proprietary cloud infrastructure and software architecture.
The new Australian data centers will join a global network of ten data centers in five countries around the world serving the email security and data needs of over 13,000 customers and millions of their employees.
“Key to growth in Australia is data residency and data center location. If you want to succeed here you can’t just commit to a sales and support presence, you must put down technology roots too. We expect to follow in the footsteps of other leading cloud vendors like Microsoft who has recently opened data centers to fuel their growth here,” added Lennon.
“Cloud services are growing in their popularity with Australian businesses and Microsoft Office 365 is becoming a popular primary email service. We intend to take advantage of this trend with our suite of complementary cloud services for Office 365. Mimecast helps its customers put in place cloud-on-cloud protection that complements their security and archiving capabilities under Office 365, as well as mitigating a potential single vendor exposure they have in the event of service downtime. So whether you use Exchange, Google or Office 365 for your email we can help protect it.”
