SolarWinds, a leading provider of powerful and affordable IT performance management software, today announced its participation at SQL Server Konferenz 2015, February 3-5, in Darmstadt, Germany. At the event, powered by the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS) Deutschland and Microsoft® SQL Server, SolarWinds Head Geek and PASS President Thomas LaRock will co-present “Designing for Performance: Myths and Misunderstandings” with fellow SQL Server MVP Karen Lopez and present “Monitoring Databases in a Virtual Environment.” Both sessions will provide best practices and useful tips for database administrators who are designing and monitoring databases.
“Our research shows more than 70 percent of mission-critical databases are running on virtualized environments. While virtualization offers many benefits, it also introduces challenges for database professionals as they have less visibility into the virtualization configuration and how it impacts performance,” said LaRock. "I‘m looking forward to sharing my expertise with the wider SQL Server community through a day long workshop, which will include a session on how-to fine tune the performance of a database, as well as a more traditional presentation that will shed light on the popular topic of database virtualization.”
Tune-in to a rock star session:
Designing for Performance: Myths and Misunderstandings Workshop
On February 3, from 10:00 am. to 6:00 pm. CET, LaRock will co-host the Power Workshop DBA training session on "Designing for Performance: Myths and Misunderstandings" along with Lopez. This workshop will highlight why bad designs will always exist, what can be done to avoid them, and how best to work with them when needed. Attendees will leave this workshop with an understanding of why common issues are so common, how to better anticipate issues before they happen, how to deploy and implement design choices that benefit everyone, and proper performance benchmarking and controls reports.
Monitoring Databases in a Virtual Environment
LaRock will present on "Monitoring Databases in a Virtual Environment," on February 4, from 2:45 to 3:45 pm. CET. This presentation will focus on the changes that DBAs need to make in their performance and monitoring practices and how to understand the difference between physical and virtual server environments.
