EnglishLeap is focusing on imparting and promoting fluency in speaking, reading and writing English; catering to a population of over 1.0 billion in India.
India today has around 350 m people that use English in some way or the other (classified as “English Users”) in their daily discourse; however only 90 m of them actually speak the language and merely 10 m out of that speak English fluently. As the youth of India go up the curve when it comes to “employability” considerations; some level of competence and fluency in the English language will be instrumental in their future professional development. EnglishLeap has taken an innovative approach to impart English language fluency, working across vernacular languages in India, using smartphones as the delivery medium.

Sarker goes on to add,“Most employers will tell you today that for a like-for-like comparison of candidates that apply for a job, if one stands out on the English language fluency or proficiency level, he or she not only has a competitive edge, but also commands a salary premium of around 25-40% in the market place. We intend to deliver this advantage to a wider population that do not have access to a quality English language education.”
EnglishLeap presently offers web based learning proposition, along with an English Grammar App that is available via the Google play store. Its website attracted over 3.5 million visits in 2014, and its grammar App has had over 300,000 downloads; with next to little effort expended on marketing and branding. EnglishLeap is focused on revolutionizing the engagement model for building proficiency in the English language in India, away from bricks-n-mortar “training centres” to enabling proficiency in the English language accessible via smartphones. The growing importance of the smartphone as a delivery medium and the increasing digitization of learning in India, is expected to create unprecedented opportunities in this space over the next few years.
