AccuVein, Inc. today announced that its AccuVein AV400 vein visualization device was awarded the coveted Innovative Technology designation by Novation at its Innovative Technology Expo that was held in September. The Expo identifies healthcare products that improve patient outcomes and enhance patient and provider safety.
The AccuVein AV400 was awarded the Innovative Technology designation following a review by more than 200 attendees from hospitals around the United States who serve on a Novation council or task force and participated in the Expo. These key opinion leaders indicated the AccuVein AV400 offered incremental benefit over other products available on the market.
Venipuncture is the most common invasive medical procedure with an estimated 2.7 million procedures conducted every day in the United States alone. The AccuVein vein illumination device can help reduce the need for multiple needle sticks, with the ultimate goal of improving patient care and the time to access veins. A recent study showed a striking 45% reduction in escalation calls following the implementation of the AccuVein AV400, with 81% of the nurses reporting an improved ability to cannulate veins. The Infusion Nurses Society is now recommending the use of vein visualization in their 2014 guidelines.
