The Australasian Life Underwriting and Claims Association (ALUCA) is a professional association for people involved in the life insurance industry. ALUCA aims to facilitate professional development of members, represent the professional interests of underwriting and claims personnel in the life insurance industry and improve the level of professional competence and practice in the field of risk management.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Truth or Dare… Market Forces at Play”. ALUCA aims to reflect on recent changes in the insurance market at this year’s conference. The conference aims to educate, inform and stimulate attendees through presentations from local and international speakers, and concurrent sessions.
2014 has been a big year for new technology in the insurance industry. Mobile, Social, Big Data and Analytics are at the forefront of insurers minds as changing consumer behavior affects the industry. These new technologies require updated software solutions to provide integration points to create a single user environment.
Advanced technology allows insurers to take advantage of new technology capabilities, such as big data analytics. Insurers have access to a lot of data but may not have the necessary resources to work with that data to create some meaningful insights. Big data analysis improves insurers analytical capabilities by leveraging all of the available data. These insights can then be used to improve or adjust other areas of the business, such as marketing to specific demographics in a more personalized manner, or adjusting pricing based on risk.
