PRZOOM - /newswire/ - Canton, OH, United States, 2014/07/11 - EMP once again showed how to lead by example and was the pre-eminent EM Group at ACEP’s annual Leadership & Advocacy Conference (LAC) meeting recently held in Washington, DC.

Represented by our 21 Scholars, four residents from EMP sponsored programs and 14 EMP doctors, EMP was one of the largest groups among the record 550 attendees.

According to EMP’s Director of Health Policy & Legislative Advocacy Dr. L. Anthony Cirillo,“As part of the experience (now seven years running), EMP began the conference a day early and presented its own educational program for Scholars and residents in attendance. “

The full day program covered topics such as the Basics of Political Advocacy, the Effects of ACA on Emergency Medicine and GME Funding. The Scholars also met both Rep. Joe Heck (R-NV) and Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-CA), both of whom are Emergency Medicine physicians and are part of the EMP Nation. Each spoke about the challenges and opportunities regarding healthcare reform for the country.

The EMP Scholars Program (emp.com) is an intensive one-year training course to mentor and develop Emergency Medicine Physicians with leadership potential. The goal of the internal program is to equip and empower EMP’s future leaders.
