The announcement was made by Hearst Newspapers President Mark Aldam.

“We are delighted to expand our current Fellowship program to increase the rotation length and the number of participants at each of our local media units,” Aldam said. “Our goal is to fully integrate 12 to 18 new multimedia journalists across our newsrooms each year. This year’s class, like the 12 previous classes, will help our newsrooms gain valuable skills and insights from journalists representing the millennial generation.”

The Hearst Journalism Fellowship program consists of two 12-month rotations at two of Hearst's top metro newspapers and websites, including the Houston Chronicle, San Francisco Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News, Albany Times Union, Connecticut Newspaper Group and the Hearst Washington Bureau. Fellows work closely with an adviser through the two-year program to schedule rotation assignments and design an individual development plan. The Fellows serve as full-time Hearst employees and are expected to perform a variety of newsroom roles during their two-year rotation.

The newest Fellows (below) will begin the program in August 2014:

• Shirin Ghaffary, University of California, Berkeley, 2013
• Jeffrey Hargarten, University of Minnesota, Spring 2014
• Brittany Horn, Penn State, Spring 2014
• Connor Radnovich, Arizona State, Spring 2014
• Theodore Schleifer, Princeton, Spring 2014

The premier program of its type in the country, the Hearst Journalism Fellowship was established in 1999 and seeks to attract the very best and brightest multimedia professionals. Twelve groups of Fellows have rotated through the program since its inception, with nearly 75 percent finding permanent positions at Hearst Newspapers at the conclusion of their Fellowships.

The Hearst Newspapers Fellowship program (hearstfellowships.com) accepts applications from college graduates beginning in September of each year.
