Applied Video Imaging, a provider of rugged video products for airborne, ground, and marine surveillance missions, introduced its DVI/HDMI to 3G-SDI Converter unit. The rugged stand-alone unit can convert up to four separate DVI or HDMI video inputs to four dual SD SDI, HD SDI, or 3-G SDI video outputs. With AVI’s converter, customers can easily add or incorporate Laptop inputs and other DVI and HDMI video sources into their mission system.

Each of the four DVI/HDMI video inputs is independent and can accept all SD through 3-G SDI format standards. Low latency, high performance processing provides SDI encoding to duel multiplexed SDI outputs. HD inputs can also be down scaled to SD. Re-clocked outputs provide robust, maximum distance transmission of SDI video. AVI’s DVI/HDMI converter is available in four, two, or single channel versions.

“AVI’s new DVI/HDMI to 3G-SDI Converter allows our customers to interface to existing sensors, laptops, and processors with DVI or HDMI video outputs. As more portable devices are brought on-board for various applications, this product will make it easy to plug these in to the existing display and distribution system,” said Bruce Carriker, President and founder of AVI. “The AVI DVI/HDMI converter provides a cost-effective, light weight, rugged, and robust means for distribution of DVI and HDMI video on our customer’s platforms.”

Designed to DO-160 standards, AVI’s rugged DVI/HDMI Converter single channel unit weighs 1.2 pounds in a 5.5 x 4.3 x 1.5 inch package and accepts 9 36 volts DC power. This converter is designed for use in airborne, ground, and marine law enforcement and defense surveillance applications. Based on industry standards, it can be used with any SDI display or system.
