The regional airport moved to SITA’s AirportConnect Open common-use platform for flexibility to support both scheduled and charter airlines using the airport.

Common-use allows airlines to process passengers at any workstation or boarding gate at the airport, giving Killeen flexibility when managing its infrastructure. With SITA AirportConnect Open, airlines can use their own applications on the common-use infrastructure and the airport now has the ability to manage charter flights.

The five-year agreement with Killeen Airport includes SITA’s sophisticated flight information display (FIDS) technology, AirportVision, which provides airlines and passengers with real-time flight and weather information on easy-to-read displays throughout the airport. This integrated system reduces the amount of manual processes for the airport staff by automating the delivery and display of information. SITA’s system also allows the airport to provide advertising for its retail and other partners. In total, SITA supplied 25 large LCD displays, 14 common-use passenger processing workstations, five FIDS workstations and 18 printers across the airport.

Diane Watt, Airport Technology, Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport, said: “We have been a Com-Net Software customer since 2004. Throughout that time, and since SITA acquired Com-Net Software in December 2010, their dedication to service has been outstanding. When it came to reviewing our common-use passenger processing system we knew that SITA’s proven technology combined with the team’s commitment would be a success. The switch is now complete and we are very pleased with our decision.”

Matthys Serfontein, SITA Vice President, Airport Solutions, said: “SITA supplies technology to some of the largest airports in the world and we use this experience and knowledge to support the smooth operations of regional airports like Killeen-Fort Hood. The team at Killeen set high standards to support the growth planned over the coming years and we at SITA are working closely with them providing world-class technology to help exceed expectations.”

The global airline industry has set new standards for passenger processing, known as Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS). SITA (sita.aero) has designed a cost-effective technology offering for regional airports which meets these international standards. This allows the smaller airports to attract major airlines and provide them with the level of service they receive at the largest airports around the world.

Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport together with American, United and Delta Airlines serves just over 300,000 passengers a year. More than 300 airlines use SITA’s AirportConnect Open to process millions of passengers every day in more than 400 airports worldwide.
