The CCA awards recognize the outstanding individuals, firms and associations that represent the Canadian construction industry. “Listening to the awards ceremony, I really felt the breadth and width of talent in our industry,” said John Schubert, chair of CCA. “The CCA award recipients truly raise the bar for everybody involved in the industry. CCA General Contractors Award of Recognition - Presented with the Robert G. Saunders Memorial Trophy
Louis Fontaine, Project Manager, BPR Construction
CCA is proud to acknowledge Louis Fontaine’s continuing pursuit of excellence, encouragement of productive and cost-effective job sites as well as his ongoing promotion of education and standard documents. Fontaine has extensive experience in project and construction management. He is known for seeking equilibrium in quality, costs and time, working with “open books” and gaining the respect of all stakeholders. He has also been active in numerous associations.

Francis Roy, President, Gyptech Acoustique
CCA is pleased to recognize Francis Roy’s dedication to his industry and to the CCA Trade Contractors Council. Roy joined the council in 2011, providing updates and information on the interests of trade contractors in Quebec. Roy has also participated in the development of bidding guides for architectural specialties. He is a past chair of the ACQ region de Quebec.

CCA is proud to acknowledge Al Reed’s tireless efforts within his business and the heavy/civil industry. Reed began working for Saskatchewan Highways as both a bridge and highways engineer, then worked for Poole Construction (now PCL) and started Carmacks Enterprises with three partners. He is a past chair of the Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association, Western Canada Roadbuilders & Heavy Construction Association and the CCA.

CCA is proud to acknowledge the Grand Valley Construction Association’s (GVCA) commitment to consistently improving and updating its services to its members. At the root of GVCA’s offerings is education - from Gold Seal Certification to Business Excellence Forums, its Safety Group and targeted seminars. Through analysing gaps in services and information, the association worked with its local college to create a Professional Ethics in Construction course which is adjunct to the Gold Seal ethics workshop. It is a required workshop and aims to improve ethical decision-making in the field of construction.

JJM Construction (Delta, British Columbia)
CCA is pleased to recognize JJM Construction’s multi-agency approach incorporating innovative engineering and construction practices. The Delta Shake & Shingle site was a privately-owned landfill consisting of approximately two million cubic metres of demolition, land clearing and construction waste. Working closely with the site owner and project engineer, JJM established a cost-effective solution for transforming a once-contaminated brownfield site into useable commercial property, minimizing the risk of landfill fire and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.
CCA Excellence in Innovation Award - Presented with the Hugh R. Montgomery Memorial Trophy
PCL Industrial Management (Edmonton, Alberta)
CCA is proud to acknowledge PCL Industrial Management’s innovative method of rigging industrial modules to reduce site costs and improve safety. Modularization of heavy industrial plant construction in the oil and gas and petrochemical industries is a standard mode of operation utilized to reduce costs, site congestion, and schedule. PCL has recently engineered, designed, and fabricated in-house an innovative method of rigging modules to reduce site costs and improve safety. The time required to modify the rigging configuration to accommodate changes in bay dimensions, number of pick points, and center of gravity has been reduced to 10 per cent of traditional rigging assemblies.

André Morin, Vice-President, Acier AGF
CCA (cca-acc.com) is pleased to recognize André Morin’s role as an undisputed key player in the history of the construction industry in Quebec, and for his many services to the Canadian construction industry. Over the course of Morin’s career, the vision he had of his industry has become, in large part, the industry itself. In 1989, by promoting closer ties between the Fédération de la construction du Québec and the Association de la construction de Montréal et du Québec, he facilitated the creation of the ACQ.
