PRZOOM - /newswire/ - Sequim, WA, United States, 2013/01/14 - Northwest Performance Software, Inc. has released version 2.0 of the Managed Switch Port Mapping Tool, a software application that discovers devices attached to the physical ports of your managed network switch.

Northwest Performance Software, Inc., a leading provider of internet and network information gathering software utilities, today announced the availability of version 2 of the Managed Switch Port Mapping Tool. This new major update is currently available for immediate download, trial and purchase. Changes and additions include updated user interface, Switch Lists, History Database, SNMPv3, Command Line operation, sixteen (16) new data columns including LLDP and CDP, and the app is faster since it now supports SNMPv2c/3 Bulk Transfer Mode.

Many of the changes in this release have been a high priority for our customers. Switch Lists allow you to map a set of switches and automatically save the results of the individual mappings in the History Database for later review. The History Database contains all switch mappings and those mappings can be searched and the full results reloaded in the the results display grid at a later time. Command Line operation allows scheduled activation of single switch mappings or Switch List mappings from Windows Task Scheduler by running the application from a command line. LLDP and CDP are new data columns that allow you to see information about other switch or router devices attached to switch ports. Optional new data columns include several types of packet error counts like collision errors. The user interface has been updated to match standards set by Windows 8.

The Managed Switch Port Mapping Tool uses Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to communicate with managed Ethernet switches and other SNMP enabled devices to obtain the information necessary to create a detailed spreadsheet-like report of the switch mapping for the user. A summary report is also created and presented automatically in the user’s web browser. Version 2.0 works with all Microsoft Windows versions from XP through 8. The software is very competitively priced at $199 for a single user version.

The Managed Switch Port Mapping Tool is designed with the network manager in mind. Wiring closets often have equipment from multiple vendors. We have worked to make the program manufacturer independent so you can use it in mixed manufacturer switched networks. Snapshots of the current mapping of the switch can be printed or exported using the XML spreadsheet schema or as basic tab delimited text files, both of which are suitable for import into popular industry standard commercial and open source spreadsheet programs.
