ElectroniCast Consultants, a leading market & technology forecast consultancy, today announced their 5-year market forecast of the consumption of light emitting diode (LED) lamps in General Lighting applications in India.
According to ElectroniCast, the consumption value of LED lamps, which are used in stationary (non-vehicle) lighting, are projected to reach $97.11 million in 2012; consumption value is forecast to increase at an average annual growth rate of 62.2 percent to an impressive $1.09 billion in 2017. The ElectroniCast market forecast of consumption (electronicast.com) is presented for six major lamp-type categories. The lamp categories, in turn, may have multiple sub-categories, which are determined by lamp luminous flux and/or the physical size of the lamp. The market forecast is also segmented by three major End-User categories: Government; Commercial/Industrial; and Residential/Non-Specific
The Commercial/ Industrial group is especially strong in the General Service lamps and PAR lamps; however, MR compatible lamps are forecast to begin replacing halogen-based MR lamps in many retail-type settings (displays and ceiling lighting), thus MR compatible lamps are forecast with an average annual growth rate of over 70% in the Commercial/ Industrial application. Street lighting used for roadways, parking lots and campuses is forecast to maintain a strong presence consumption value, in the Commercial/ Industrial group, especially with the lamp’s high average selling price compared to other-types of lamps.
Residential is forecast with relative strong use in the General Service lamp types; however MR compatible are also forecast with a strong market share, used in modern ceiling lighting and fixtures. Street Lighting is forecast to dominate the Government application. LED-based Linear (tube) lamps, which offer an alternative to the standard fluorescent tube lamps are forecast to remain relatively minor, at least near-term (2012-2017).
