ElectroniCast Consultants, a leading market & technology forecast consultancy, today announced their 5-year market forecast of the European consumption of light emitting diode (LED) lamps in General Lighting applications.
According to the ElectroniCast study – In 2012, the General service/Decorative consumer-level lamps holds the leadership position of the relative market share of LED-based lamps used in Europe. The Parabolic Aluminized Reflector (PAR) LED lamp product category is projected to take a 28% share, followed by the Multifaceted Reflector (MR) Compatible lamps, and finally the street lighting and the linear (tube) lamp product-lines.
The use of LED-based lamps in General lighting is driven by promised savings in using less energy, longer operating life, as well as maintenance/ labor, since LED lamps last longer than competing technologies, they do not need to be replaced as often and “Green-Tech” (ecology) issues.
This market forecast of European consumption is also segmented by three major end-user categories: Government, Commercial/Industrial and Residential/Non-Specific. “The Commercial/Industrial user category is forecast to lead in terms of market share during the 2012-2017 timeline; however, both the Government and the Residential/Non-Specific sectors are forecast for faster annual growth,” said Stephen Montgomery, president – International Business at ElectroniCast Consultants.
ElectroniCast (electronicast.com) forecasts that Western Europe will maintain the leadership role in relative market share throughout the forecast period. The consumption value of LED lamps, which are used in General Lighting, in Western Europe is projected to reach nearly 48% market share in 2012. LED Lamp consumption (value) in Western Europe is forecast to increase at an average annual growth rate of 33%.
