Meliá Hotels International has received four nominations in the European Hospitality Awards 2012 organised by the British magazine “Hotel Management International” in recognition of the most outstanding work in the European hotel industry. Gabriel Escarrer, company chairman and founder, was honoured in last year’s awards with the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his remarkable career in leading the largest Spanish hotel company.
This year, the company is represented in the “Best International Hotel” category by the Paradisus Playa del Carmen (Mexico), a luxury vacation resort in the Mexican Caribbean designed by the architect Álvaro Sans which blends harmoniously with the lush tropical mangrove forests that surround it, and where guests experience a sensation of being completely immersed in nature.
The recently opened Gran Meliá Rome (Italy), the jewel in the crown of the Gran Meliá brand, has received two nominations for “Best Interior Design” and “Best Room”. The hotel is an authentic hotel-museum located in the heart of the city on the site of the ancient Villa Agrippina, home of the mother of Nero, the famous Roman Emperor, and whose archaeological remains can be admired in the building’s elegant galleries.
Finally, the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora (Tenerife, Spain), the only Spanish hotel candidate at the awards, has been nominated for “Best Service of the Year” thanks to the quality of its “Red Level for Families” service which offers guests a range of luxury services and facilities especially designed for every member of the family.
The winners will be announced in a gala award ceremony to be held in London on 2 November. With a jury consisting of experienced members of the industry, the European Hospitality Awards aim to recognise outstanding contributions to the hotel industry in areas such as innovation, design, technology, sustainability and customer service.
