K. Denaye Hinds, Director of Sustainability with OBM International (OBMI), one of the world’s leading international architectural and planning firms with nine global offices, has been appointed Vice-Chair of the Miami-Dade Branch for the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) South Florida Chapter.

Miss Hinds was elected by member-peers in the green-build community of Miami-Dade County. The election closed on the evening of September 3, 2012, and it was clear how members of USGBC felt about Miss Hinds as Vice-Chair of the branch. “I am personally elated for Denaye, her Branch and our Chapter. I know she will be a strong contributor to the success of her Branch,” said Lee Cooke, Executive Director of the USGBC South Florida Chapter.

Miss Hinds who is originally from Bermuda, joined OBM International in 2011 and immediately got involved with the community and the USGBC Miami-Dade Branch. In her new role, she will fulfill the responsibilities of the Chair in the event of the Chair's absence or disability. Additional responsibilities are assigned by the Chair to help assist with various Branch functions, event and strategic planning, marketing and membership endeavors, and to promote the overall growth of the Branch and Chapter.

When asked about her newly appointed position with the USGBC, Miss Hinds responded,“I am honored to be affiliated with USGBC as it consistently focuses its efforts on educating and providing resources that promote a sustainable future and aims to incorporate the environment in building systems. The organization is advancing the way in which we design and adapt to the world’s environmental issues. Along with the South Florida Chapter’s leadership, my goal is to organize stimulating programs, which will provide our members with avenues to integrate green building standards, and to be involved with sustainability projects in our community.”

Prior to joining OBMI, Miss Hinds was an independent contractor specializing in sustainability consulting and auditing. She assisted South Florida and Caribbean entities in the process of certification under national and international environmental certifications through LEED project work, sustainability presentations and training, among other initiatives.

Miss Hinds earned her master’s degree in construction management from Florida International University and bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. She is a LEED accredited processional and Green Globe auditor.
