Ms. Philbert will take the seat previously held by Harry Stonecipher, former CEO of Boeing, who retired from the board but will remain an adviser to the President & CEO.
Philbert is currently the President & CEO of Best Yet Supermarkets. Previously, she served for four years as Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Merchandising Officer for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, more commonly known as A&P. Prior to her time with A&P, Philbert spent 17 years at Safeway, rising from regional positions in the Northern California division to a variety of senior roles, including Corporate Vice President of Marketing; Corporate Vice President of Deli, Food Service & Starbucks; and Corporate Vice President of Lifestyle Initiatives.
Philbert is widely recognized by retail and consumer product executives as a results-oriented, decisive and proven leader in the food and supermarket industries. She and the operations under her direct oversight have earned numerous awards; Philbert was recognized in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 as one of Progressive Grocer’s top Women in Grocery; she was recognized as one of the Top 200 Retail Food & Beverage Executives in 2008; the 2008 Progressive Grocer’s Executives to Watch; the 2009 Store Brand Leadership Award; the 2009 Private Label Retail of the Year Award from Private Label Magazine; the 2009 Meat & Deli Retailer of the Year by Meat & Deli Retailer magazines; the 2009 Griffin Report’s Women of Influence in the Food Industry; the 2009 Retailer of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine, and the 2010 Tri-State Most Powerful & Influential Women award from the National Diversity Council.
