Founder and COO, Clarice W. Dowdle has officially launched her website seniorcaregivingtoday.com. The website is targeted toward the baby boomers who are now facing tough and difficult decisions as they try to assist and make choices for their parents and loved ones. Dowdle feels that it is essential to put a “face” on today’s caregiving issues. Her website is the one place where you can get the answers you need to be an effective caregiver for your family member. Unlike other websites that can be confusing and direct you to a variety of other links, Seniorcaregivingtoday.com is user-friendly, well presented, and has a clean yet professional look that is easy to navigate.
The website has daily pertinent articles, a blog, YouTube interviews/videos, as well as information on seminars, conferences and media appearances. Most importantly, it lists the 10 Step Plan for Effective Senior Caregiving, which Dowdle feels is the cornerstone of effective management of seniors today.
Dowdle is the creator of the “pre-aging agreement” which is a non-legal document that is used to begin the dialogue between adult children and their parents. Also, it opens the door for discussion on the many topics seniors need to address from legal issues, to medical care, to living situations. Dowdle believes that pre-planning the senior years will enable family members to have a calmer and more organized “plan of action” rather than a hysterical family when a crisis strikes. With family members potentially scattered from one end of the country to the other, a unified plan is essential for optimum success.
Creating a “treasurebox of memories” is also one of Dowdle’s concepts. “It is so important in those final years to document and embrace all the memories of a parents’ lifetime. Whether it is recorded, written, or just committed to memory. When your parents or loved ones pass on, they take their history and some of yours with them. It is your job to capture as many moments as possible so you can pass on their life story to others,” said Dowdle.
Currently, there are over 65 million family caregivers in the U.S., with a tab of over $450 billion in caregiving services alone. With the anticipated aging population to more than double between the years of 2000-2030, the need for some sort of guidance in this rapidly growing aging arena is vital.
After a lifetime of caregiving for family members as well as directly being involved in the inside operations of senior care facilities, Dowdle felt it was time to tackle this issue head on by creating this website, along with developing seminars, appearances, and a book that will be released early this summer.
“I am so excited about moving forward with this project. After the passing of my father last July, it occurred to me that I now am the matriarch of my family, and that bears a huge responsibility. Not only is it important for me to help other contemporaries with their family aging issues, but also to leave a template for my daughter and her generation, as she will one day be my caregiver,” said Dowdle.
