Nautical Control Solutions, LP (NCS) announced today that its FuelTrax system now provides the ability to enter activity codes for automatically coupling fuel usage numbers to location, date, and time. Wind and sea states are included.
“This development effort started with our offshore support vessel customers, who have to log various activities each day as part of their charter requirements with petroleum companies,” said Anthony George, CEO of NCS. “The process is manual and can involve different paper-based forms created in house or provided by the oil company. It is not a difficult task but can be tedious, particularly at the end of a shift. Day-to-day work can interfere with the process and the very nature of manual entry can introduce errors that can be compounded when these forms are sent to shore for manual entry into another system.”
“FuelTrax activity logging improves the process by providing drop-down menus and predefined information for easy coding of time slices,” continued Mr. George. “The vessel’s captain or chief quickly apply the preloaded activity codes using a mouse -- no keyboard entry required. Data is entered accurately and is automatically offloaded each day during a normal FuelTrax data transmission. The activity codes are then paired with fuel data by date, time, latitude and longitude for reporting of vessel activities against fuel usage. It represents a big time saver for the crew and improved visibility for the ones paying the fuel bill. ”
“Coding is customer defined and can include any type such as Anchor Handling, Close Standby, Environmental Monitoring, Maintenance, Towing, Subsea Operations, Rig Move, and others. By combining accurate fuel usage with the codes, customers have a clearer picture of how the vessel and crew are using fuel. How much fuel do we use during dynamic positioning? Anchor handling? Waiting on weather? Waiting on an asset? Finding slop in the schedule or in the daily work routine that wastes fuel becomes easier,” said Mr. George. “This new feature helps us continue our aggressive move into the OSV market and solidifies our leading market position.”
About FuelTrax
The onboard, ABS Type Approved FuelTrax system along with the shore-side FuelNet™ web portal (fueltrax.com) helps improve the performance of vessels through tighter management controls, accurate fuel accountability, and optimized vessel operations. FuelTrax monitors fuel flow, measures and alarms fuel tank levels, and proves bunker fuel densities and quantities. Live wheelhouse monitoring features include BestSpeed™ and BestEconomy™ for real-time throttle adjustments that can help reduce fuel consumption.
