Strava, the brand that helps athletes all over the world experience social fitness—sharing, comparing and competing with each other's personal fitness data via mobile and online apps--has announced the newest challenge for their community of runners. Strava has teamed up with one of the leading names in sports nutrition, GU Energy Labs of Berkeley, California, to launch their first running based challenge, the GU 100,000 Mile Challenge.
Scheduled to start March 9, 2012, the GU 100,000 Mile Challenge will encourage runners to cover as many miles as they can in 31 days. Runners that meet milestones of 100, 150 and 200 miles will be awarded with prize packages from GU, including Peanut Butter GU Energy Gels, Roctane Ultra Endurance Energy Gels and Drinks and more. Entry into the challenge is free to anyone at Strava.com.
Running a personal total of 100, 150 and 200 miles in just one month requires dedication, determination and desire; to help athletes stay motivated, GU Energy Labs is raising the stakes with a group challenge: Should all Challenge participants accumulate 100,000 miles collectively over the 31-day challenge, every participant will receive a special GU VIP card for discounts and special offers on GUenergy.com. In addition, GU will randomly select five athletes who post inspiring photos and stories about their training on the GU Facebook page to receive a special GU Gift Pack.
“We are excited to partner with a company like GU that has supported runners and endurance athletes in communities worldwide,” said Michael Horvath, CEO and co- founder of Strava. “Nutrition plays a huge role in effective training and this challenge speaks to the dedicated runners out there who are looking to set new goals and break personal records as they ramp up their 2012 training.”
“Everywhere we turn we get great feedback on the training tools Strava provides endurance athletes,” said Christian Johnson, VP of Sales and Marketing at GU. “The fit between the two companies couldn’t be better -- we’re always looking for creative ways to expose avid athletes to our range of tasty and effective products. We expect many more future collaborations with Strava.”
Free for any athlete to use, Strava (strava.com) also offers a Premium plan that brings features such as leaderboard filters by age, weight and gender groups. Priced at just $6 per-month or $59 per-year, Strava Premium also provides enhanced heart rate, power analysis and deeper physiological reporting on the athlete’s performance.
