AtSite, a building solutions company, guides the design, construction, operation and optimization of buildings and spaces.
Over the last decade, the School has invested in energy efficient facilities, including the first K-12 school building anywhere to earn a Platinum rating in the LEED environmental certification system.
Initial assessments by the AtSite team suggest that the school can achieve further gains in energy performance. AtSite has integrated the building automation systems (BAS) across both campuses, and a “Light-up” of all buildings is scheduled for completion by the end of January. The AtSite team will then engage in a comprehensive Performance Improvement Roadmap (PIR) to outline key energy conservation measures for the school and AtSite to pursue in the coming months.
In consultation with AtSite the School chose to go “wide” before going “deep”, meaning, it sought to understand how energy is being used at the building and campus level before making changes to specific areas.
Additionally, a phased approach is planned, rather than attempting to implement all solutions at once. The team saw this as the most effective and efficient use of time and resources.
Sidwell Friends School has developed a number of projects around sustainability and energy-efficiency and is considered by many to a leader among green schools.
In addition to its Platinum Middle School building, Sidwell Friends has a LEED Gold project with two buildings and adjoining landscape on its Lower School campus, and is seeking LEED certification at the Gold and Platinum level for two more recently completed buildings.
