When Arizona State University hosts Pac-12 newcomer Colorado in football on Saturday, Oct. 29, the grass will not be the only thing green at Sun Devil Stadium — so will the electricity used at the stadium.
IMG College and ASU Athletics purchased 125,000 kilowatt hours of renewable energy from Arizona Public Service. This is enough green energy to power the stadium during the game and for the remaining Sun Devil home games this season.
The ASU/APS Green Game celebrates the partnership between the university and the utility in helping to make Arizona the national epicenter for solar development. The game also is providing an opportunity to increase the understanding of how solar and renewable energy is helping meet the energy needs of ASU and the entire state.
Leading up to the game, APS and ASU will tweet information about solar energy at @APSNewsCenter and @SparkyArizonaSt. On game day, an APS booth near Wells Fargo Arena will provide an interactive educational experience where fans can answer questions about solar energy in the hopes of winning Sun Devil merchandise. During the game, the video board and the stadium’s LED ring will periodically run solar facts and tips highlighting how ASU, with APS’s help, has developed the most onsite solar energy capacity of any single university in the nation.
This is the third year ASU and APS have held a Green Game at Sun Devil Stadium.
