The workshop focused on such topmost retail security issues as reduction of losses and specifically, cashier operations supervision.
The event tailored for security and IT management of retail businesses included presentations by representatives of the organizing companies, installation companies and independent experts in retail loss reduction. After the workshop, participants had a chance to exchange their experience in an informal conversation and ask questions to the speakers.
Alena Kozlova, AxxonSoft Product Manager, presented POS Intellect, a solution for video surveillance and cashier operations supervision. The presentation highlighted its new feature – the web reports subsystem that provides for access to centralized statistics of the cashier operations supervision from any store of the retail chain. The system can be used as part of an integrated monitoring center and individually to provide remote access to required statistics for managers, security department heads and retail chain top management. According to many workshop participants, the web reports subsystem can turn the scales for the POS Intellect when choosing a cashier operations supervision solution.
Johan Åkesson, Director Business Development Retail, Axis Communications, talked about the benefits of using network cameras in surveillance systems for retail businesses and presented new Axis IP cameras for retail. David Gorman, a leading expert in retail loss prevention, briefed the workshop participants on international experience in video surveillance systems and on the need to use network cameras.
The presentation by Alim Sizov, General Director of the SVS Project installation company, entitled “Building Security Systems: Pitfalls and Risks” provoked a special interest. The expert told about several concepts for video surveillance and cashier operations supervision systems and shared his rich experience in installing and using such systems in Russian retail chains. The presentation included real life footage from retail stores illustrating possible fraud schemes.
The workshop was attended by representatives of leading retail businesses in Russia, such as Auchan, Metro Cash&Carry, Sportmaster, Svyaznoy, Globus Gourmet, Azbuka Vkusa, Evroset and others as well as representatives of oil companies Gazprom Neft, TNK-BP and Rosneft. The participants noted the speakers’ high expertise and relevance of the issues in focus, and emphasized that presentations were full of hands-on experience in establishing and using security systems.
"The workshop was beyond a doubt very relevant and productive. I found the insights in new technology for retail security particularly interesting. Judging from conversations with my colleagues at the workshop, almost all security department heads realize the need to use state-of-the-art technical solutions, including network surveillance cameras,"
said Radion Urumov, head of business activity supervision department at Duty Free Rex Trading Company.
"I was especially happy to see that our industry is not marking time, that we are moving ahead. Many people have realized the need to use network cameras, at least in crucial areas, to improve footage quality and be able to deal with incidents in a speedy and high quality manner. It was interesting to learn about international experience in building and using security systems and to talk to my colleagues. At the end of the day, we all face similar issues. It has become obvious that given the high employee turnover in cash operating units retail businesses do need cashier operations supervision software as an integral, user-friendly and efficient element of the overall loss prevention system,"
said Sergey Pushkar, security manager at Metro Group Logistics
