The Versa CamGuard tray range uses advanced third generation silver technology from Microban, which is built into the polyester material at the point of manufacture and is designed to disrupt the growth of bacteria such E .coli and S. aureus between cleaning cycles. This provides a highly beneficial feature in high traffic food service environments such as convention centres and health care facilities where trays are subject to continuous and heavy use.
Bert Dittmar, director of European sales at Cambro, said: “The launch of the Versa CamGuard tray has created a great deal of interest among our customers. Thanks to its tough but attractive design and the benefits of Microban antibacterial protection, it is the ideal tray for use in all kinds of food service environments.
“Before launching the tray to market, we carried out an extensive market assessment and undertook case studies within hospitals and healthcare facilities, convention centres, cafeterias and caterers, and were pleased to receive a very positive response. We are planning to implement additional Microban technology applications in the future.”
The Versa CamGuard trays with Microban antibacterial protection are tested by independent laboratories and approved for contact with food in the EU. Production takes place under high quality standards in Germany while Microban carries out regular sample testing to ensure that the antibacterial technology is functioning to the highest standards.
Additional features of the Versa CamGuard include flat sides and corners to allow easy use, stacking lugs for rapid drying, and reinforced edges that are designed to absorb shocks.
Paul McDonnell, Managing Director at Microban Europe, added: “The Versa CamGuard product is an ideal application for our third generation silver technology. The antibacterial action adds an extra level of reassurance for food service companies, supporting their existing cleaning regimes very effectively.”
About CamGuard Versa Trays
• The trays are made of high-performance composite material comprising polyester and fibreglass. CamGuard Versa is dishwasher safe and suitable for many temperature ranges.
• Once bacteria come into contact with the Microban surface, the technology works by disrupting their biological functioning, the lifecycle cannot proceed and the bacteria then die.
• As the Microban technology is built into the matrix of the polymer at the point of manufacture, antibacterial efficacy will not be affected by repeated washing, scraping or abrasion and will provide ongoing protection from the growth of bacteria for the useful life of the tray.
Cambro invented the Camtray® in 1951 which was quickly embraced by restaurant, hotel, school and cafeteria operators, becoming the industry standard. Growing from this heritage, today Cambro offer the most complete line of sizes, shapes, colours and materials in foodservice trays.
New product innovation is a tradition at Cambro. In recent years they have introduced revolutionary products like the Camrack® Warewashing System, Camshelving® and the thermoelectric Camtherm® Cabinet. The new Camguard® tray with Microban antibacterial product protection built-in is their most recent addition to the product range. With its enhanced hygiene it is ideal for use in environments such as healthcare facilities and canteens.

About Microban Europe’s antibacterial protection
On untreated products, bacteria can potentially double in number in 20 minutes but, by using a wide range of antibacterial technologies to suit each specific application, Microban disrupts their functioning, usually causing them to die within 24 hours.
A dedicated certification programme ensures that quality testing is regularly carried out on all products carrying the Microban branding and that antibacterial claims are technically supported.
This allows manufacturers utilising Microban to support robust statements about their efficacy – for example,“applied to the product at the point of manufacture preventing 99.9% of bacteria and odours, and providing longer lasting hygiene.”
