At JavaOne, 2011, Oracle showcased the latest developments in the evolution of Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE).
Java EE continues to be hugely popular with increasing developer adoption and over 40 million downloads of Java EE components, including Oracle GlassFish Server.
Since its availability in December 2009, six major IT vendors have released certified, open source and commercial implementations of Java EE 6, making it the most rapidly implemented release of the platform to date.
Java EE 7, the next generation of Java EE, is well underway with 10 active Java Specification Requests (JSRs) being worked on through the Java Community Process (JCP) by over 20 different participating companies and represented by hundreds of engineers.
Java EE 7 JSRs include: Java EE 7 Platform, Java Persistence API 2.1, JAX-RS 2.0: The Java API for RESTful Web Services, Servlet 3.1, Expression Language 3.0, Java Message Service 2.0, JavaServer Faces 2.2, Enterprise JavaBeans 3.2, Contexts and Dependency Injection for Java EE 1.1and Bean Validation 1.1.
The Java EE 7 Expert Group is also expected to explore the possibility of including other JSRs to Java EE 7, including: JCache 1.0 – Java Temporary Caching API, Concurrency Utilities 1.0, Java State Management 1.0 and Java Identity API 1.0.
Java EE 7 is being designed to further enhance the Java EE platform for Cloud environments. As a result, Java EE 7-based applications and products will be able to more easily operate on private or public clouds and deliver their functionality as a service with support for features such as multi-tenancy and elasticity (horizontal scaling).
As the reference implementation for Java EE, GlassFish Server is not only a complete Java EE 6 implementation (available in open source as GlassFish Server Open Source Edition and commercially as Oracle GlassFish Server), it also is the proving grounds for the upcoming Java EE 7.
Oracle GlassFish Server complements Oracle WebLogic Server 11g, which is designed to run the broader portfolio of Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g and large-scale enterprise applications on premise and in the Cloud.
Oracle is showcasing Java EE and related technologies at JavaOne 2011 during 136 combined conference sessions, BOFs and Hands-On Labs, as well as in the JavaOne Exhibition Hall.
