Mason, OH, United States, 2011/09/21 - Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH) visited with the CEO and employees at the Harris Products Group's headquarters located in Mason, Ohio to learn more about the company's history and state of their business through the recent recession and the ongoing recovery.
The Harris Products Group, a world leader in brazing, soldering and welding alloys and equipment, hosted Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH) for a few hours on Friday, Aug. 19, at the company’s headquarters in Mason, Ohio.
The Harris Products Group employs about 600 people around the world; about 175 are employed by the global headquarters in Mason, Ohio. Dave Nangle, the president of The Harris Products Group, invited Schmidt to give the congresswoman insights into the impact of the current economic conditions on U.S. manufacturing, tour the facility and talk to members of the Harris team.
“We appreciated the opportunity to hear from Representative Schmidt and discuss some topics of importance to us, like job creation, the ability to compete with overseas manufacturers and corporate tax reform,” Nangle said.
In addition to sharing the company’s history and the state of the business through the recent recession and the ongoing recovery, Nangle provided Schmidt and members of her staff with a tour of the 250,500-square-foot facility. He explained how Harris alloys are produced from the raw material, to the end product alloys that customers use in manufacturing, construction, HVAC, refrigeration, metal fabrication and other industries.
Nangle also explained some of the Lean Six Sigma techniques the company has used to keep manufacturing costs low, allowing Harris to compete with international companies and export to more than 90 countries around the world.
“I think you do a great job, and I applaud you for the work you’re doing here and the contribution you’re making to the community,” Schmidt said.
