Wake Forest, NC, United States, 2011/09/15 - Event to feature live painting demonstration conducted by studio artist, wine tasting, and catered fare - WineandDesignNC.com.
Wine and Design will be introducing itself to the town of Wake Forest with a Grand Opening scheduled for Saturday, September 24th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. The three-hour event will be held at the wine and party painting party’s studio located in the Shoppes of Heritage at 3325 Rogers Road, Suite 115.
Co-owned by husband and wife Jonathan and Jenn Woodhull-Smith, Wine and Design Wake Forest is the fifth franchise location for the Raleigh-based business, which promises “memories and a masterpiece” in just two hours. Painting sessions are led by a local artist who provides step-by-step instructions to first-time painters, aspiring artists, or self-proclaimed pro’s that result in an individualized work of art. Jenn Woodhull-Smith had attended a few classes at the Raleigh location when she decided to bring the concept to Wake Forest. With the population expected to grow to 40,000 residents, she says that Wake Forest was an ideal location for Wine and Design.
“I’m so excited about introducing the Wake Forest community to the painting party concept,” says Jenn Woodhull-Smith. “Our goal is to ensure that everyone involved has fun. Our artists are very talented and are dedicated to making sure everyone is comfortable exploring their creativity.”
Jonathan and Jenn Woodhull-Smith met at North Carolina State University in 1999. After going their separate ways, the two reconnected eight years later through NC State’s MBA program. They married in Wake Forest in May 2009. Jonathan Woodhull-Smith has been in sales for seven years and always talked about owning a franchise. Jenn Woodhull-Smith worked in the corporate world for a few years and owned a marketing research company. She will be managing the daily operations of the studio and says she is “looking forward to bringing a fun experience to the residents of Wake Forest.”
Wine and Design first opened its doors in Raleigh in April 2010 as the dream of longtime friends and business partners Emmy Preiss and Harriet Mills. The wine/painting party concept was a first in the Triangle and has proven so popular, that—in addition to Wake Forest—Preiss and Mills also have franchises operating in Wilmington, Wilson, Jamestown, Cary, Charlotte, and Asheville. Like the other studios, Wine and Design Wake Forest will offer two-hour painting classes starting at $35 per person.
The premise for the business is simple and has proven popular since its opening—Wine and Design provides the canvas, cover-up, paints, paintbrushes, and corkscrew and attendees provide a beverage of his or her choosing. Participants browse the studio’s website to find a painting they would like to replicate. Sessions are led by local artists that guide participants through a carefully-orchestrated, step-by-step process. Wine and Design accepts general reservations, but also books private parties. The company also hosts fundraisers, with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the cause.
Jenn Woodhull-Smith says that the Grand Opening will give visitors a great feel for the studio and how simple the painting process is saying,“For our event, we plan to have one of our artists, Deborah Harris Bondurant, actually paint one of our class offerings. Deborah was presented with the Peace Purchase Award presented by NC State Design School President Joe Cox and specializes in commissioned portraits of people, pets, and landscapes. Pet and child portraits classes have continued to be a big draw for the other locations so we’re especially excited to have Deborah as part of the team and providing these wonderful, individualized paintings.”
The Grand Opening will also feature a wine tasting by Wine 101 and catering by Shuckers Grill & Oyster Bar. Everyone who signs up for a painting class during the event will receive a gift certificate for one free future class. Wine and Design Wake Forest will operate from 10:00am to 10:00pm seven days a week. The studio is now accepting reservations for October classes. For more information, call (919) 453-0552.
