Zephyr Technology was part of the international community which came together for the miner rescue effort. When the news was first released, the Chilean government called upon Biomec, a Santiago, Chile–based company that represents Zephyr in Chile. Biomec contacted Zephyr, who rallied its team to assemble a fiber based solution for the Phoenix Capsule and a wireless PSM Solution for use in the mine. When the rescuers’ drill finally broke through to the miners’ workshop; Ben Morris, Zephyr’s Field Application Engineer, arrived at the San Jose mine to educate the Chilean Ministry and other rescue workers on how the technology could be integrated and leveraged for maximum success. Ben Morris remained on site through the completion of the extraction effort.
The field efforts were supported by Zephyr’s entire technical team. “This is one of those moments when you realize that your team and technology can make a hugh difference in so many lives”, says Brian Russell, Zephyr’s CEO.
The Smithsonian exhibit,“Against All Odds: Rescue at the Chilean Mines” opens to the public on August 5, 2011; on the anniversary of the accident at the San Jose Mine, near the city of Copiapo, north of Santiago.
