Pilani, Rajasthan, India, 2011/07/25 - Considering that information is just bits of data while knowledge is putting them together and wisdom is transcending them, Shridhar University Pilani regularly organizes expert talk on various topics of contemporary interest - ShridharUniversity.ac.in.
When one person is connected, their life changes; when everything is connected, the world changes is the essence of the networked society. On 25 July 2011, Shridhar University faculty had a brain storming session on “Networked Society” with Mr Jaideep Singh Senior Manager Products & Solutions Innovations from top ranking Telecom Giant and Global Major Ericsson Delhi.
In his talk Mr Jaideep pointed out that the networked society enables people to collaborate, innovate, sustain, learn, care and participate in ways one never thought was possible. Networked Society targets a combination of mobility, broadband, the cloud, applications as well as services and focuses on innovations from a variety of environments, places, situations etc for an empowered society. Over the next 10 to 20 years, it is expected that many more devices that are part of daily lives such as televisions, appliances and cars, would get on the network and be able to communicate to make lives easier.
It is expected that the networked society will make much broader use of cloud computing which enables users to access services remotely. By making use of a cloud-based operating system, it is possible to eliminate the need for users to oversee things like virus protection, software updates and maintenance. The Networked Society becomes a reality as customers and users demand greater capacity in mobile data networks every day and it may not be an exaggeration if it is said that globally there will be 50 billion devices connected in 2020.
In such a scenario, consumer demand for advanced high bandwidth services (like IPTV, Internet / cloud connectivity etc.) with very high reliability is bound to create the need for a converged high-capacity all-IP based fiber network. FTTH – Fiber To The Home which is a communications architecture in which the final connection to the subscriber’s premises is optical fiber is increasingly gaining popularity.
At the end of the session, it emerged that even though the great Chinese thinker and philosopher Confucius quote says that learning wisdom by experience is the bitterest, an experienced person can indeed make the process sweeter also.
