SaskTel will provide High Speed Internet service to 28 First Nations communities in Saskatchewan over the next two years. SaskTel will also deliver 4G wireless coverage to 19 of those communities that do not currently have wireless coverage. The remaining 9 communities already have 4G. (See Backgrounder for a complete list of communities and tentative schedules.)
Residents of the first two communities, Pelican Lake First Nation and Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation, can now enjoy the benefits of SaskTel High Speed Internet service. 4G wireless coverage is also available in both areas. SaskTel has also expanded 4G to Yellow Quill First Nation.
This project is part of a larger SaskTel initiative, the Saskatchewan Infrastructure Improvement Program (SIIP), which began in 2009. Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada is contributing $8.8 million to Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) through the First Nations Infrastructure Fund. SaskTel will be investing an equal amount, with the STC assuming an administrative role.

"Residents of these communities will now be able to take advantage of the many educational and business opportunities provided by the latest Internet and wireless technologies."
