For years there have been various initiatives such as ARM (Application Resource Measurement) aimed at providing a cohesive solution for integrating server and network capacity management with an endtoend view of service quality.
Other than for specific environments where the benefits have outweighed the high costs, they have failed to be adopted being either too costly, too time consuming, too difficult or creating too much impact on the application.
The recent announcement that Metron is now an official global reseller of Correlsense’s SharePath means that the combination of Metron’s athene® and SharePath is about to overcome these limitations.
Andrew Smith CSMO, Metron commented “We are very excited about the new opportunities ahead. Sharepath’s innovative transaction tracking provides end to end metrics for incorporation into athene® capacity models and this means that infrastructure planning now moves out of the infrastructure and becomes end to end planning from the user perspective.”
Traditional capacity planning solutions focus on monitoring individual IT components and creating models to predict their usage but such solutions fall short for complex, dynamic environments.
It has been difficult to predict the true infrastructure impact of business growth for a specific department or product line since there has been no way of knowing which infrastructure items (servers and software components) align with which business services in the past.
John Reuben, vice president of sales and marketing for Correlsense, said,"We are happy to have Metron as a global reseller of SharePath. It's hard to believe how many companies struggle without the necessary data to make informed capacity planning decisions and attain complete IT reliability. In any industry, information is power, and the transaction-level data Correlsense's SharePath feeds into Metron's athene® delivers the kind of in-depth views that businesses need to optimize their IT operations."
The complementary products, available from Metron, mean that companies can now move to the next level of physical and virtual performance assurance.
