London, United Kingdom, 2011/05/17 - Leading Experts from Eaton Corporation, BMW, Car2Go, IBM, UN-Habitat, Sixt AG, and Streetcar will join Parliamentarians at the House of Lords to Discuss the Impact of Urbanization and Future Megacities on Mobility and Vehicle Technology Planning.
By 2020, 4.5 billion people will be living in cities, representing more than 60 per cent of the world's total population, according to research from Frost & Sullivan. It will be cities, rather than countries that will drive wealth creation in future. This extraordinary growth in population and economy will lead to the development of mega cities and mega regions, which in turn will have a profound impact on personal mobility and on the transport mode of the future.
"In future, instead of cities designed around cars, we will have cars designed around [mega] cities," says Frost & Sullivan Partner and Automotive & Transportation Practice Director, Mr. Sarwant Singh. "Car companies, as a result of urbanisation, will realise they are not in the business of making cars, but in the market for providing personal mobility."
To put their future mobility vision on the fast track for the future, government, public sector and industry corporations will come together during Frost & Sullivan's 2011 interactive workshop entitled 'Urban Mobility 3.0: Growth Opportunities in Smart Mobility Business Models, Infrastructure and eService Platforms' in London on 15th and 16th June.
Keynote presentations and panel discussions will be supported by senior representatives from the government (Greater London Authority), industry corporations (Eaton Corporation, BMW, Car2Go a Daimler subsidiary, E.ON AG, General Motors, OLEV, Sixt AG, Streetcar, TSB, Verbund Austria), the public sector (UN-Habitat) and the academic world (University of Amsterdam).
"For city dwellers in large mega-cities of the future inter-modal transportation will be easier due to the concept of a dynamic transport solution integrating different modes under a single entity," says Singh. "Although the concept is still in the nascent stage and the stakeholders are operating independently, the future will see an integrated approach."
"Today we see new players entering the market and providing integrated mobility solutions," he continues. "Tomorrow we will witness transport operators (rail and bus operators), mobile phone operators, IT services providers and online booking agencies providing door-to-door, multi-modal solutions. These Mobility Integrators (MI) will take transportation solutions to the next generation by fully integrating the existing long- and short-distance transportation providers to create a single solution. "
The Frost & Sullivan two-day event will facilitate debates and discussions around the evolution of urbanisation and its impact on mobility and the automotive and transportation industry, new business models emerging to offer alternative mobility solutions, an analysis of multi-modality and micro-mobility solutions, and offer a perspective on the government vision and proposals to support new mobility trends.
