There are various components that contribute to successfully entering a new market. Some of the common factors include entering the right market at the right time and completing the appropriate due diligence.

Frost & Sullivan recently published a whitepaper, The Emergence of a New Wireless Broadband Service Provider, which describes core components that support a company’s ability to deliver on its promise of building wireless infrastructure in key global markets. The two countries examined for this concept were China and Peru. In terms of wireless broadband expansion, both countries demonstrate partnership and growth potential.

“With a population of 1.35 billion and one of the largest and fastest growing economies in the world, entry into China is an obvious option,” states Frost & Sullivan’s Senior Consultant of Information and Communication Technologies, James Brehm. “China ranked second to the US in terms of nominal GDP at the end of 2010, while broadband penetration ranked below many other counties.”

Peru is also positioned as a jumping off point in the wireless broadband market as the Internet usage rose from 10 percent of the population in 2003 to 25 percent of the population at the end of 2008, according to statistics from the World Bank.

In a search for a service provider that demonstrates the ability to deliver in emerging markets across the globe, Frost & Sullivan identified ChinaTel. This is displayed through their own fiber optic infrastructure, strong partnerships with vendors, necessary R&D resources, good spectral holdings and strong relationships with regulatory agencies.

“ChinaTel sought the opportunity in expanding its wireless broadband technologies in China and Peru through assertive partnership agreements and rolled together many great resources while keeping cost in line,” notes Brehm. “Most important to any service provider is access to underserved customers and ChinaTel has expanded its footprint as a wireless broand provider in an industry cluttered with failed attempts.”
