The conference, which was held in London attracted 75 delegates from all over the UK and Ireland who came together to learn more about the Kentico CMS, how best to utilise this fantastic system and share our experiences of Kentico with our peers.
How it all began
The day was started off with Petr Palas the Founder and CEO of Kentico Software, who told us of the success Kentico has seen over the last few years and how it now has an impressive 1,200 partners all over the world; which in comparison to competitive CMS such as Episerver and Sitecore, speaks volumes for the uptake and confidence agencies have with this fantastic solution.
Kentico’s Intranet Solution
After Petr’s engaging talk on the direction of Kentico and their position in the market so far, we were introduced to the Kentico 5.5 R2 Intranet Solution by Michal Neuwirth. I promise, if you haven’t heard about this Kentico offering already that this is NOT an April Fools hoax. Kentico really have launched an intranet version of their CMS! In MMT Digital’s opinion the intranet solution is a great addition to the Kentico CMS and means that our clients will now only have to learn how to administrate one solution saving considerable time, training and money. Michal explained how the intranet solution has international support functionality allowing global companies to publish content to colleagues all over the world allowing for greater collaboration between employees in different offices. Other functionality includes social networking support, work groups, and document libraries. Finally, Kentico’s seamless integration with Microsoft Office will allow you to easily open, edit and save documents from your browser.
The highlight of the show
Follow a presentation from Wayne Jasek on how to sell Kentico against Open Source CMS, MMT Digital’s very own Kentico genius took to the stage. James Canning our CTO and Joint MD gave a very enthusiastic talk on an agencies view of Kentico. The main message that James and the rest of MMT Digital hope the partners at the conference understood was how we should all be aiming to build the best possible Kentico driven solutions, not only for ourselves but for the whole community and make Kentico the CMS of choice - which in the end will benefit all of us.
Kentico Version 6.0
Martin Hejtmanek then introduced us to the biggest version release of Kentico so far. Kentico 6.0, which is planned to be released in September this year. I’d like to name just a few of the planned updates to the Kentico CMS - mainly because I’ll be writing forever and secondly because I don’t think I’ll be able to give the update justice by writing just one short paragraph. Some of these new features include additional ecommerce improvements and functionality, new on-line marketing functionality and further support for the upcoming hosting solution Windows Azure.
I believe I’m speaking for everyone who attended the conference when I say it was exceptionally interesting, informative, useful, and most of all fun to meet lots of other like minded Kentico experts. I should probably note that there was no April Fooling around though!
