Brighton, East Sussex, United Kingdom, 2011/03/30 - Dawson Books and Semantico, a leading provider of services and technology for online publishing, have agreed a major program of updates to dawsonera, the unique publishing platform that allows libraries to build tailored collections of ebooks.
Since launching in 2007 the platform has grown to provide over 170,000 ebooks from over 450 publishers. In response to this success the extensive program of updates will provide faster load times and a new 'read online' facility which will provide more flexibility than a PDF-based system.
A series of agile developments throughout the year will ensure that librarians and users can benefit from improved functionality as soon as it is ready. The site will receive a redesign, which will include enhanced social networking features enabling users more easily to share information, lists and searches.
Jude Norris, Marketing & Technology Director at Dawson Books, said: ‘Dawson’s mission is to set the standard in ebook technology. To achieve this, continued research, development and collaboration with library partners has ensured that dawsonera is at the forefront of technology. eBooks clearly provide new opportunities for improved learning. A significant investment from Dawson over the forthcoming year will focus on the user experience, taking advantage of virtual communities through user driven content and social media.’
‘We’re delighted to embark on this series of improvements to this unique platform,’ said Richard Padley, Managing Director, Semantico. ‘Dawson Books have led the way with their business models, offering a flexible approach that libraries and readers really appreciate. Our program of improvements has more innovations that we’re sure will keep dawsonera in its well deserved place as the platform of choice for librarians.’
