St. Louis, MO, United States, 2011/03/29 - Innovative DVD & instant viewing feature allows consumer interaction. AF-100 operation & configuration DVD available now - InfotechAcademy.net.
DreamWelder Productions is now taking pre-orders for their new instructional DVD on the Panasonic AF-100 which offers customers the ability to view completed tutorial segments as they are being produced. This “instant viewing” feature comes with the purchase of the DVD.
After the success of their RED 101 DVD, Jay A. Kelley, president of DreamWelder Productions, decided to take their innovative concept one step further and create Infotech Academy. This academy serves as an online trade school for their instructional programs for camera operators and professionals in electronic cinema, web and the television industry. The first piece of equipment to utilize this new format is Panasonic’s AF-100 DVD – one of the hottest selling cameras on the market today.
DreamWelder’s instructional DVDs aren’t created as one single 2-3 hour program, but instead are made up of small “courses” that focus on one subject at a time and are based on the assumption that consumers have not picked up the camera before. This not only allows the user to jump to what they need to know at the time, but they can now watch the “course” segments as they are completed. When a customer pre-orders a DVD, they receive access to a password protected site that allows them to view the videos as they are finished.
This cutting edge format creates a collaborative environment between the consumer and the creator. The online forum allows customers to tell the company what they would like to see and because the DVD is still in the creation process, there is flexibility from the production end to incorporate new ideas into the finished product.
The “course” segments will be available to download for those who have purchased the DVD once it is 100% complete. Until then, they are only viewable online. Because there will be slight differences in the DVD and Online versions of the instructional videos, including subtitles for foreign languages, the Combo Package is the best buy as it includes both versions for only $6.00 more. The DVD is expected to be completed by end of August 2011.
Pre-ordering the DVD series not only offers the advantage of access to the material as it is created, but buyers also get a $10 discount as incentive to purchase early. A number of videos are currently available for the AF-100 with additional ones added in one to two week intervals. RED 101, their first “interactive” educational series released last year, is also available online through Infotech Academy or DVD.
Kelley believes that people who are “a little too smart” often create today’s training videos, especially in the film and video areas. “I remember when I was starting out I kept hearing people throw around technical terms and numbers that I did not understand. I thought, ‘people don’t have enough concern and respect for those of us who are just starting out.’ And these guys were my teachers! … I felt my focus needed to be on the beginning of the process, not the middle or end of it. There are lots of techno-geeks out there who LOVE to talk about the cooler aspects of technology, but few want to take the time to explain the simple stuff, let alone make it entertaining. That’s where I come in.”
The AF-100 DVD will provide approximately 3 hours of instructional material including accessories, PDF menu guides, and a “renter’s section” that focuses on a walk-through perspective for those who simply need to know how to set the camera up.
DreamWelders’ innovative instructional techniques (dreamwelder.com) will be a tool for other educational DVDs in the months and years to come.
