Besides powering the competition financially, TI will also give out free Bluetooth low energy development kits to the first 20 developers who submit prototypes for the competition. Developers who submit prototypes after the free kits are gone will be offered a 50 percent price discount. The Bluetooth SIG will begin accepting entries for this year’s contest on May 1, 2011.
This year’s Bluetooth Innovation World Cup is once more looking for innovative product ideas that use Bluetooth low energy technology in three different product categories: sports and fitness, health care and home appliances. For the first time, this year’s event will also have a dedicated category for the best-functioning prototype based on Bluetooth low energy technology.
“TI continues to invest significantly in the development of Bluetooth low energy technology to further connectivity of innovative personal health and fitness devices as well as home appliances and we are thrilled to play the title sponsor role in this year’s Bluetooth Innovation World Cup, ” says Volker Prüller, marketing manager for low-power RF products at TI. “Since launching the world’s first Bluetooth low energy development kit in October 2010, we’ve seen several hundred developers start Bluetooth low energy application designs with TI’s CC2540 single-chip and software solutions. We look forward to another year with great ideas and prototypes, spurred by game-changing ideas that will emerge from this year’s Bluetooth Innovation World Cup competition.”
“Bluetooth SIG is very proud to have TI on board as the title sponsor this year, ” says Suke Jawanda, Chief Marketing Officer of the Bluetooth SIG. “It has been exciting to see the innovative Bluetooth enabled concepts and prototypes generated from this global contest over the past two years, and thanks to our sponsors, I look forward to seeing even more prototypes that showcase the transformative potential of Bluetooth low energy technology this year.”
Besides having TI as the title sponsor, the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup 2011 will be sponsored by Freescale Semiconductor (“Preferred Technology Partner”), Nordic Semiconductor, and VARTA Microbattery.
About the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup
In its first two years, the Bluetooth Innovation World Cup received submissions from more than 500 developers around the world. The ideas made use of the unique characteristics of Bluetooth low energy technology, such as very low power consumption, and the possibility of transforming entire industries with a simple, secure and super-efficient networking technology. For the third year, the Bluetooth SIG is looking for new applications and products that use Bluetooth low energy technology primarily in the fields of sports and fitness, health care and home automation. The contest will begin in May 1, 2011. For more information, visit the Innovation World Cup site at bluetooth.com/Pages/IWC.aspx. The Bluetooth Innovation World Cup 2011 is sponsored by Texas Instruments, Bluegiga, Freescale Semiconductor, Nordic Semiconductor, and VARTA Microbattery.
