With customers' dependence on polyester products consistently increasing demand in the global market, there is a need to optimize the catalysts employed in industrial production processes.
As a response to the challenges of existing polyester catalysts, Toyobo has developed its heavy metal-free aluminum-based 'TOYOBO GS Catalyst'™, which is environmentally friendly, has no adverse effect on health, and offers high performance in terms of conversion, selectivity, and product quality.
Compared to the existing antimony and titanium-based catalysts, the catalyst from Toyobo does not result in any discoloration. In terms of thermal and thermo-oxidative stability of the polyester, the new 'TOYOBO GS Catalyst'™ works better than titanium catalysts resulting in polyester products that degrade along with its thermal history.
"TOYOBO's innovation is a reflection of the company's initiatives in furthering advancements through core technology management and expanding their research networks with overseas facilities," said Christina Priya Dhanuja, Senior Research Analyst for Frost & Sullivan's Technical Insights practice.
She continues,"Capitalizing both on the catalyst's performance features and its strong R&D expertise in catalyst technologies, Toyobo is expected to set a benchmark in the polymerization catalysts industry. Mainly because the 'TOYOBO GS Catalyst'™ has been developed to address key challenges of environmental impact and PET product quality, it has a higher customer acquisition potential than the existing catalysts."
"Polyester is one of the most important substance and technology of business for TOYOBO and we have been dedicating our resources to developing new Polyester technology," said Ryuzo Sakamoto, President of TOYOBO. "The goal of our research work on catalysts is to provide a solution to meeting market needs and it is a great privilege for us to receive this honorable award in the field of polymerization catalysts."
